Looking for an online art curriculum? geeART16 is an Internet collection of Flash-based tutorials and activities designed to support national curriculum standards related to art. There are sixteen units of study, a fact that is integrated into the name. Children start by visiting www.geeguides.com from any web-enabled computer and log in. A new lesson is available every three weeks, giving the program enough content to last the year. It can be accessed from any computer with a high-speed internet connection as there is no software to install. Children can repeat activities to set the high scores in all sixteen modules. Hidden features can be unlocked by gathering Artist Cards and Puzzle Pieces along the way. The animations were developed in collaboration with Disney animators, and it shows. A one year's subscription ($70, plus $35 for each additional student, per year) includes painting software, so that your child can create art directly on the computer. Testers noted some clunky interface issues, such as a bit of a wait while each video is loaded. A site license costs $995 that includes: 16 lesson modules focusing on Art, Visual Language, and Creative Thinking; unlimited student log-ins for twelve months; automatic progress recording after every session; full access for summer school classes; gifted and talented courses; after-school programs and all special education needs; cross-curricular ties to other subjects including Math, Science, History, and Geography; and a site license for Corel Painter Essentials (painting software for creating computer art).
