Juka and the Monophonic Menace
© 2006 SouthPeak Interactive
This complex one-player Game Boy Advance cartridge comes with a comic book storyline that will appeal to some more than others. After selecting a language option (from English, French or Spanish), you are introduced to a boy named Juka who must find and mix potions in order to "save the land of Obla from the evil Monophonic Menace." This line of the story gives you a taste of the idea of this fantasy, comic book-like game. There's no shortage of content in this game. Players move through five levels where they meet 50 characters (many of them bad guys) in search of seven types of items. Each level is introduced through several screens of reading. To win, children must collect over 50 items and upgrades (six "elemental ingredients") to mix. After each level, games are saved by visiting a special signpost. The movement controls are not as responsive as we'd like. This is a game to borrow before buying, unless you're interested in this particular set of characters.
