Designed for students or travelers, this easy-to-use talking translator lets you type in any of 10,000 words--in English or Spanish--and see a translation in large letters on a two-line LCD screen. You can also hear each word pronounced in a fairly clear female voice. The rubbery chicklet-style QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to enter a word. Additional content includes five simple word games such as Hangman, that can be played in either Spanish or English. Flash-card and list modes can be used to practice weekly word lists. The controls can be less than obvious to use. The process of switching between English and Spanish could be much easier, and navigating to a given word for pronunciation is tricky. Features include a volume setting and a headphone jack. While the games and word lists are geared toward the first year of Spanish, this device has obvious utility for a traveler. All in all, this is a durable and useful device that does what it says it will do. Runs on four AAA batteries.
