© 2005 Mystic Seaport - The Museum of America & The Sea
This is an interactive historical documentary on one of the last remaining wooden whaling ships, the Charles W. Morgan. Built in 1841, the 108 foot vessel is on display at the Mystic Seaport Maritime Museum. The CD was produced by the museum in Macromedia Director, by Buzz Card studio, as a way to extend a visit to the museum. At the heart of the CD is 20 narrated slide shows that blend present day pictures with past footage, illustrating the construction of the ship, the whaling industry, life at sea and so on. A set of simple games includes a whaling paraphernalia picture matching game, a whale word hunt, and a board game that illustrates the daily life on the ship and pay of a Morgan sailor. Rounding out the resource is a bibliography of related books, videos, and web links. This would be a terrific supplement to a history unit on the era.
